The Problem with Cannabis Cultivators – Kevin Jodrey from Wonderland Nursery

While we were in Garberville, CA at Wonderland Nursery, Kevin went on a rant about the problem with today’s cannabis cultivators.

Rant about Cannabis Cultivators

Kevin Jodrey:

The problem with cannabis cultivators is typically they think they’re specialists, or masters of a single cultivar. You end up missing out on the true beauty of plant growth. It’s all connected. I think that when you’re a new grower you should be studying cannabis grow, but I think you should really allow yourself to take a look at all plants and start to understand plant science and soil science. You have to start to understand the interconnected nature on how all these things function and work because you’re part of the process now. Once you understand how the system has been balanced for a billion years, it’ll help you tremendously with allowing the plant to function to its optimal and to get out of the way. Most people believe that they’re driving the plant forward, but if you were to fall over and die from a heart attack and the plant had food and water, it would still go through its life cycle without you. We’re not needed to create what’s taking place and you have to understand that by studying agriculture and plant science in general so that you can really appreciate the bigger picture of what we do. Then, you can really get caught in the art of it and the mystery of how it all functions. As smart as we think we are, I don’t think we really know much. It’s really trying to allow yourself an opportunity to get an education on exactly what it is you’re doing in a bigger picture, then you can start to become this cannabis specialist as you go forward. I’d say that’s the number one thing. Educate yourself on what it is you’re really doing and allow the beauty of what we do to just captivate you and drive you forward. Otherwise, it is a job and show me someone who has a job who kicked ass. No, it was always something they loved that drove them forward. So with cannabis, it’s such a personal relationship. When you allow that to really take place and you understand how the redwood tree and the cannabis plant are connected and in what way they’re not, it really helps you.
